Tips for Raising a Hunting Blind

Productive Cedar Products has been helping hunters stay comfortable, dry, and successful in the field since 1993. Our quality cedar deer blinds are built to last, offering the perfect balance between durability, weather protection, and ease of setup. While our blinds can be used directly on the ground, many hunters choose to raise them for better visibility and an added advantage in the woods. Here are a few tips to help you safely and effectively raise your hunting blind this season.

Plan Your Blind Location

Before you start lifting or building a platform, take the time to choose your location carefully. Look for an area that provides clear sightlines to game trails, food plots, or natural funnels. You’ll also want to consider wind direction and sun exposure. A raised blind not only helps with visibility but also minimizes your scent. Once you’ve selected your spot, clear the area of brush and debris to ensure a stable, level foundation.

Building a Stable and Safe Platform

Safety and stability should always be your top priorities when raising a blind. Whether you use a wood or steel platform, make sure it’s anchored securely and rated to handle both the weight of the blind and occupants. Ideally, you may want to use lumber and galvanized fasteners to prevent rot and corrosion over time. For best results, construct the platform to fit the footprint of your prefabricated cedar deer blind, ensuring each corner is level and square. Adding diagonal braces to each leg can help prevent sway in windy conditions.

Please note, our deer hunting blind prefabricated panels are designed for quick setup, often in as little as 30 minutes. Lift each panel carefully, following the natural slope of the terrain, and secure it to the platform as you go. A small ladder or set of stairs can make access easier and safer once the blind is in place.

Maintenance and Long-Term Durability

One of the benefits of our cedar deer blinds is that they’re built to withstand the elements. Cedar’s natural resistance to decay and insects makes it ideal for long-term outdoor use. However, it’s still a good idea to inspect your raided blind periodically. You want to spend time checking fasteners, supports, and the corrugated steel roof for wear or damage. Keeping the area around your blind clear of overgrown vegetation can also help with visibility and reduce unwanted pests.
